Introduction (and Disclaimer)
Hello and welcome to my first official newsletter.
This started as a more formal way to recognize and keep sponsors and supporters updated on what's happening on a regular basis. After posting it on my website however, there has been a terrific response for those interested in staying in the loop. I plan on sending an update out every month and possibly every couple of weeks when things really get going in the racing season.
Be assured that this is not spam. I will not send you meaningless drivel, nor am I trying to sell you anything, however if you do wish to buy something from me I have lots of things lying around the house that we can negotiate on.
If you do not wish to receive this then it shuold be very easy to unsubscribe and you will in no way hurt my feelings.
The plan is to send through race results, news updates, pictures, races and events that I will be hosting or taking part in, fun stories and winning insights. My blog is also a great place to keep connected and of course www.jasperblake.com for any relevant information.
Hope you enjoy it.
JB at the Races
It has been an incredibly eventful 6 months. After Hawaii World Champs we took off to Nepal to get my mom to Everest base camp. In Novemer we sold our house, in January Jude and I got married then at the end of February we had our first kid. Life has been full but in the best possible way.
I somehow managed to get the work done this winter however and am arriving at the start of 2008 in very good shape. I had one minor set back having to take four weeks off of biking and running due to some bruised cartilage under my knee cap. My aerobic base has never been bigger however and after 2 weeks back and some speed work I managed to finish a close 3rd in the Subaru International Half Iron in Shawnigan Lake. I was disapointed not to win but I got very close closing a 5 minute gap down to 2 minutes in the first 12km of the run. At 14km however the legs exploded and I proceeded to lose almost all the time gained in the last 6km. I was excited to be back racing and it was also my first race as a Dad. I know Finn was most interested in milk and sleep but it was still fun to have him there. I think I will encourage a career in golf.
Next up is the Provincial Championships on June 15th then the second race in the Subaru International Half Iron Series on June 22nd.
Media Madness
The Subaru International Half Iron brought the usual local media fun with a great piece on "A" channel about my bike. With a bike this nice you don't actually have to be good anymore. You can just show up with the bike and people will shower you with high fives.
I've entered into the realm of authorship and have my first piece coming out in this months edition of IMPACT magazine. Look for an article called "The Man" featuring local legend and endurance personality extraordinaire Nik Southwell. It was a pleasure to share Nik's story with a larger audience. Read it and I think you will agree.
Coming up in the next edition of Triathlon Magazine there will be a feature on "Jasper's Bad Ass Kuota". It's a fun bike review that showcases one of the coolest paint jobs and bikes on the circuit.
That's all for the month of May.
Until next time Be Happy, Do More, Live Now.
